Before watching – This only works with generators that have a Low-Oil level shut down. It should be in your Gensets specs and is visible as a wire coming from the engines crank case. This is a backup in case the fan in your enclosure stops working. There are two main types of temperature switch we need to choose from, Normally Closed (NC or NC) and Normally Open (NO or NO). I THINK all these should be NO type, but… The NC switch will open when the temperature rating is reached and the NO will close. If you pick the wrong one, nothing will happen when the temperature is reached AND you will disable the low oil sensor. Its easy to figure out, find the low oil wire, start the Generator. Then disconnect the low oil wire (might have to cut it, pick a sensible spot so you have plenty to work with later). If the Generator stops when you disconnect the wire you need to use a NC switch. If it doesn’t stop, touch the wire to bare metal on the engine, that should stop it and means you need a NO switch. In the video you can see that disconnecting the low oil wire didn’t work for mine (Generac GP5500), but touching to the engine did so I am going to use a NO switch. Now to pick what temperature to use. I have an regular outdoor thermometer inside my enclosure so I can monitor the temp from inside my home.
