Honda Accord 2.2i CTDi Executive Full Review,Start Up, Engine, and In Depth Tour

Tuesday, February 21st, 2012

I remember sitting in a park with my father a quarter-century ago, pointing at a nearby car. “What do you think that is?” “A BMW?” Nope, but his guess was not without reason. The second-generation Accord lifted more than a few design cues from the storied German marque. The 1982 sedan was also notable for its astounding attention to detail, compactness and efficiency. For those “in the know,” the Accord revealed Detroit’s sedans as over-sized, over-powered and indelicate. Now that Honda’s eighth-generation Accord faces a supposedly chastened Detroit, does the new model maintain the mechanical high ground? The new Honda Accord is 20 inches longer, eight inches wider, four inches taller and 1000 pounds heavier than the motor my father misidentified. In other words, it’s larger and heavier than the ’80′s Detroit iron reviled by Honda’s early fans. And yet the Accord has come full circle. After years of increasingly bland styling, the ubiquitous sedan once again begs to be mistaken for a BMW. Looking at the new Accord from the rear three-quarter perspective, clocking the C-pillar kink and the wrap-around taillights (that continue to the roofline’s down-sweep), it’s a dead ringer for the current BMW 5-Series. From other perspectives, the Honda’s design is less derivative– and less eye-catching. This despite a swage line slicing downwards from the rear and a bit of Bimmeresque flame surfacing. A distinctly un-Honda abundance of front overhang does nothing for the proportions

Honda unveiled the all-new 2013 Fit EV, announcing plans to begin leasing the 123 city-mile per charge (76 mile range combined adjusted city/highway) battery electric commuter vehicle to its US customers in the summer of 2012. The Fit EV is based on the popular Fit hatchback and is a part of the company’s diverse portfolio of alternative fuel vehicles that includes gasoline-electric hybrid, plug-in hybrid, fuel cell-electric and natural gas-powered models. American Honda will begin leasing the Fit EV to customers in select California and Oregon markets next summer, and will expand to six East Coast markets in early 2013. The Fit EV’s Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price2 (MSRP) is 625 with an estimated lease priced at 9 a month. Honda will monitor market acceptance, but expects volume at this early stage of production to be approximately 1100 Fit EV’s over the next three years.

Drag Racing @ Tepnakorn Motor Sports Complex

Friday, January 13th, 2012

Drag racing is a popular if niche motor sport across the world, the noise, smoke, style and razzmatazz of the events drag in thousands of aficionados, and in Thailand this genre is reportedly popular and well-attended, so its time to check out this scene. There are two 1/4 miles strips in the vicinity of Bangkok, and one, the Tepnakorn Motor Sports Complex, is a modern, purpose-built track located just off the Rama II highway about 50 kilometres out of the city on the long stretch down to Samut Songkram. Events run at the Tepnakorn Motor Sports Complex every Saturday night with practice starting in the daytime as the action winds up to a climax in the early hours of Sunday morning. Surprisingly the track is pretty easy to find, and heading down the Rama II highway it suddenly looms large on the right hand side following a dearth of the landmarks shown on Google Maps. It’s a sea of floodlights, a sprawling car park, banging noise and a huge, unmissable illuminated sign angled close to the road. If only every destination in Thailand was as easy to find. It’s nearly 11:00 PM by the time we arrive, and there’s is a healthy crowd milling about and the car park is packed with vehicles of all shapes and sizes. The action will apparently go on until 2:00 AM. There seems to be a pretty big mix of ‘drag’ cars hitting the 1/4 mile strip, and in action at this point are warmed-up road-legal cars including the – ever popular here – Honda Jazz and Civic as well as the Toyota Yaris and
